Overview

Bridging Identity Gaps™ refers to the process through which individuals, leaders, teams, organizations, and institutions navigate the distance between current identity and emerging identity.

The concept recognizes that meaningful change often requires more than new information, improved skills, or revised strategies.

Transformation frequently involves a corresponding shift in identity.

When identity remains misaligned with changing realities, individuals and organizations may experience friction, resistance, uncertainty, stagnation, or disruption.

Bridging Identity Gaps™ provides a framework for understanding and navigating these transitions.

Identity and Transition

Identity is not static.

Throughout life, individuals encounter circumstances that challenge existing assumptions about who they are and how they understand themselves.

Examples may include

  • Career Transitions

  • Leadership Transitions

  • Organizational Change

  • Military Transition

  • Retirement

  • Personal Transformation

  • Shifts in Meaning or Purpose

Such experiences often require the development of a revised identity capable of supporting new realities.

Why Identity Gaps Matter

Identity gaps can influence:

  • Behavior

  • Decision-making

  • Leadership

  • Confidence

  • Adaptation

  • Belonging

  • Organizational Performance

When identity remains aligned with past circumstances, adaptation may become difficult even when change is necessary.

Understanding the identity dimensions of change therefore becomes essential for sustainable transformation.

Individual and Organizational Applications

Although often experienced personally, identity gaps also emerge within organizations.

Organizations may struggle when:

  • Structures evolve faster than identity

  • Strategies change without corresponding identity shifts

  • Occupational roles become misaligned

  • Narratives no longer reflect reality

Bridging Identity Gaps™ therefore examines identity at multiple levels of analysis.

Relationship to The Identity Gap Method™

Bridging Identity Gaps™ represents the practical application of principles explored through The Identity Gap Method™.

While the method provides a framework for identifying identity gaps, Bridging Identity Gaps™ focuses on understanding and navigating the transition itself.

Relationship to Elysian Dream®

The concept reflects a recurring theme throughout the work of Elysian Dream®: the human experience of becoming.

Questions of identity, transformation, narrative, meaning, and adaptation have remained central to the broader body of work from which the concept emerged.
